Dr. Schaffel Book Review and Discussion
Join us on Wednesday, January 28 at 5:30pm CST in person at the new Forward Focus Concierge Medicine Highland Park facility, 799 Central Ave., where our very own, Dr. Gary Schaffel, will lead a Book Review & Discussion. This year Dr. Schaffel has chosen “Food Intelligence: The Science of How Food Both Nourishes and Harms” by Julia Belluz and Kevin Hall, PhD.
Julia Belluz and Kevin Hall present a look about nutrition from a refreshing lens. It covers new data on metabolism, social realities of American life, government policy, and big business that all create a complex web impacting how we eat. It provides insights on how all of these factors influence our behavior and the dramatic rise in levels of obesity and its associated diseases.
One of the most important points is that all of these factors are making eating-right increasingly more difficult and that controlling food consumption goes beyond discipline and will power. It will prompt a good discussion on the drawbacks of standard diets with a need to be individualized about lifestyle, culture, food accessibility, motivators of pleasure/reward, and risk of obesity related diseases.
Registration is required. There is limited seating. Seating will be based on first-come, first-served. You can register for Dr. Schaffel’s in person program by emailing Marti at mgreenberg@forwardfocusmed.com no later than January 27th.
